London London UK
Olive has been our home for 4 years up and down the waterways of london and the surrounding areas. She’s a beautiful trad full of character and charm.
At 70’ she’s a good size for a couple to live on. Because of her length we can use different areas separately, have a office space with the living room, as well as a having a dinette that becomes a second bedroom with the bathroom between the main cabin and itself.
She has 2 water tanks- one fore and one midship- so you rarely have to worry about running out. She also has two pump out tanks so when the large one is full you can switch to the smaller one before finding a pump so you are never caught short.
The galley style kitchen is large and sits nicely between the living room and the dinning area. With plenty of storage space, work top space, full size sink, a 4 rig gas hob and oven, and good size electric fridge you want for little as a cook. We have had many meals onboard with friends and family, baked bread, made cakes. It’s a kitchen you can really use.
Beside the kitchen we have large cupboard and wardrobe space for our clothes.
Hot water for the shower and taps is from a reliable, compact 8.6kw Rinnai gas boiler.
Over the years we’ve added coir carpets with underlay and stain resistant treatment to the living room, dinette and bedroom. Replaced our sliding windows. Last winter we had the engine serviced, the stern gland realigned and packed, and the heating system bleed down, washed through and added a flow control valve to maximise the heating for the bedroom. We also had the big Aarrow stove reconditioned with a new, wider flue, new fire bricks, rope seals, collar and paint.
Coupled to the stove is a back boiler and pump to drive the hot water around the radiators situated throughout the boat.
We replaced a previous air heater with a new D2 Eberspacher Airtonic for the bedroom. This was serviced last year and has low run time controlled by timer and thermostat.
I’ve just replaced the both our leisure and starter batteries. The 4x 110ah leisures are Tubular gel Leoch. A top end, deep cycle, no maintenance lead battery with a typical cycle life over 1500 cycles and a 6 year warranty.
The batteries are charged from walk on solar panels via an MPPT and 2 alternators through a 4 stage charging 210A Sterling power Alternator Battery charger. This system, because of the size of alternators and charger, can accommodate another leisure if you wanted.
There is also a 2000w pure sign wave inverter that feeds sockets in the bed room, kitchen and living room for power tools, mixers and the like.
There’s 4mm secondary glazing on most of the hopper windows to retain heat in the winter, as well as specially made curtains with light stop and thermal lining.
For extra storage we have added gas struts and a new top to the bed so it can be opened with one hand. We also have a Yale safe for valuables hidden and fixed to the boat.
She is in BSS for another year. She has been freshly blacked and extra anodes fitted.
All in all she is a looked after, loved home.
